Documentation: Student Portfolios (time saving considerations for real time documentation) Learn more at Reading for the Love of it 2017 "The Atelier"
Remembrance Day sparked our atelier space this month and students were inspired by learning invitations to explore their perceptions of a poppy. As we believe all students are capable learning, we encourage our learners to access their prior knowledge and represent their learning through their own personal experiences, and in turn, share their experiences with others. Many students explored the poppy with the meaning of a "poppy as a flower", a "pinchy pin", or "something my mom and dad wear". With loose parts brought from home, students were invited to invent and express their love and meaning for poppies. The representation of the poppy as a symbol become authentic for the kinders through this week long exploration. When displaying student work, make it visible. I always like to consider posting authentic dialouge gathered through conversations. This usually looks like a whole or small group conversation with one educator, while the other educator using a clipboard and paper to document students in real time.
Here is it. Remember, kindness always counts.
